Yay to negative temperatures, bookish sales and catching up on comic series.
LIST OF NEWSWORTHY
Fall Bookish Bingo
I overestimated myself and thought I would really do all the bingos this time and guess what. Half of these are comics anyway so I don’t know how successful I was overall. I really like the prompts for Winter bookish bingo and who knows, maybe I’ll end up doing better? Never lose hope haha.
Here’s the fall list (left to right, top to bottom):
- Been Here All Along by Sandy Hall
- Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz
- The Wicked + The Divine, Vol. 1: The Faust Act by Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, Matt Wilson, Clayton Cowles
- Young Justice, Vol. 3: Creature Features by Greg Weisman, Kevin Hopps, Christopher Jones
- The Wicked + The Divine, Vol. 4: Rising Action by Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, Matt Wilson, Clayton Cowles
- Bitch Planet, Vol. 1: Extraordinary Machine by Kelly Sue DeConnick, Valentine De Landro
- The Graces by Laure Eve
- Saving Francesca by Melina Marchetta
- The Knife of Never Letting Go by Patrick Ness
- Kids of Appetite by David Arnold
- The Vision, Vol. 1: Little Worse Than a Man by Tom King, Gabriel Hernandez Walta
- Superior by Jennifer Lack
- Monstress, Vol. 1: Awakening by Marjorie Liu, Sana Takeda
Sci-Fi Month
I was very successful in terms of sci-fi comics, TV shows and movies (as much as I could be). But books? I read half of one and another half that I wanted to finish but couldn’t quite manage to. I didn’t even post as much which probably is a surprise to no one. Hey, there’s always next year.
TV WATCH
Down to 17 shows from 20. Maybe this means that I really can finish watching The Legend of Korra this year…
- The Flash – SO MANY FEELINGS EVERY WEEK. THIS SHOW GIVES ME LIFE. However, I wasn’t all that impressed with the crossover episode because I felt that it was Arrow kind of serious than The Flash kind and the whole thing just felt disjointed.
- Supergirl – I cannot believe the showrunners think it is a good idea to have the most unship ship on the show AKA Karamel. They’re doing very well on the Alex front, though so I guess we can only ask for that much.
- Jane the Virgin – So many happy feelings attached to this show (despite all the crime lords running around). Also, I don’t think there has ever been a dynamic I’m fascinated by more than Jane’s with her thesis advisor haha.
- This is Us – RANDALL IS EVERYTHING AND RANDALL AND HIS FAMILY ARE EVERYTHING.
- How to Get Away with Murder – I MAY NEVER RECOVER.
- Younger – This season is a lot less crazy and a lot more grounded which I like.
- The Big Bang Theory – I…don’t remember my thoughts, but then it was on break for most of the month.
- Vixen – This was actually good! But too short because a whole season is only…20 minutes long.
- Fresh Off the Boat – I love this Asian family so much.
- Black Mirror – So intense all around! I needed at least a day break between episodes (even the bad ones) so that should tell you something.
- DC’s Legends of Tomorrow – Apparently, the CW is actively trying to get the showrunners to change Sara’s sexual identity as a bi to a lesbian and for what exactly? That’s all I can think (and be pissed) about when I think about this show, to be honest.
- Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. – ASDFGHJKL.
- Westworld – Finally started it and am 3 episodes in! It’s sometimes very hard for me to watch because of the main lead’s storyline and the overall disturbing things people are willing to do (even if they’re happening in a sort of controlled environment). SO GOOD, THOUGH.
- New Girl – I think the show has started to finally annoy me. GET YOUR SHIT TOGETHER OR DIE.
- Young Justice – I finished and I would like my heart back anytime now.
- Brooklyn Nine-Nine – WHY IS PIMENTO BACK?! I would like him to go away forever because his presence is really dulling out the show for me.
- Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life – SUCH RUBBISH. I already wasn’t a fan of Rory and now I outright hate her as well as most of everything that this revival stands for. The point at which I’m at right now, it well and truly amazes me that they didn’t manage to fuck up Emily’s arc.
MOVIE WATCH
- Star Wars: Episode II – The Attack of the Clones (2/10) – I have no idea how I managed to watch (suffer through?) it till the end (or even how Crini and Maraia willingly rewatched it haha).
- Focus (6/10) – A lot of mindless fun. I liked the twists and Will Smith and Margot Robbie have excellent chemistry with each other so that was a plus.
- Ghostbusters (8/10) – This movie wins. I had no idea that technobabble could sound so cool when coming out of Holtzman’s mouth.
- Suicide Squad (8/10) – SO MUCH FUN! I keep wanting to watch it again as I just loved the squad and their dynamics with each other. It’s clear how Suicide Squad is so much more about them than the villain(s) of the movie. Could have done without the Joker as his presence was totally unnecessary, but I wasn’t too bothered and he was rather easy to ignore.

PLAYLIST
Still not over Lady Wood, I’m so glad there’s a part two coming next year. Other than that, kind of an eclectic playlist?
Sebastian says
Oh my God, I still can’t believe how you keep up with so many TV shows, that sounds so stressful XD
I want to watch HTGAWM so badly since I haven’t even watched season 2 yet and the twitter madness is always driving me crazy but I refuse to watch it on my computer and impatiently wait for German Netflix to finally add the second season 😀
I’m still trying to unsee Casanova Sheldon who’s trying to get Amy pregnant just because their genetic material is so perfect XD
Noooo, why is Pimento back? I still need to watch the November episodes BUT WHY? Pimento is so fucking annoying, why can’t he just die? ^^
Watching Star Wars must have been fun, I always thought episode 1 was the worst movie XD
I’m a bit surprised you enjoyed Suicide Squad that much since I’ve seen so many people being disappointed by it. The trailer didn’t make me very curious for the movie but maybe I should still give it a try some day…
YESSS! The new Sia song is SO good! I have no idea what that movie is about though XD
Maraia says
Nooooo, that’s not what I want to hear about Pimento! I was so relieved when he finally left. >.<
I agree with Sebastian—I can't believe how many shows you watch! I'm only watching Suits, Designated Survivor, and Prison Break right now, haha.
You read a ton of books, though. oO (Even if a lot of them were comics.)
I'm surprised you gave Star Wars more than one star, lol. I promise they get better! The newest one is SO GOOD.
I haven't listened to much music lately, but I do love that new Sia song!
Katie/Girl About Library says
lol Love your thoughts on This Is Us. Totally my new favorite TV and and omgilove Randall and his familly, but also everyone- such a good show!
Danya @ Fine Print says
Somehow I haven’t seen the fall/winter bookish bingo cards before, but I absolutely love it. I think I’m going to try for the winter one, too!
I completely agree re: Gilmore Girls. It’s a goddamn miracle that Emily’s storyline wasn’t ruined given all the completely whacked-out things that happened. I feel bad saying this, but Rory is seriously one of the most annoying characters ever. “I suck.” <— YEP! You really do.
I read and loved The Long Way to an Angry Planet recently, that book is so much fun! PoC and queer rep out the wazoo, and none of it feels forced or token-ish. Plus it has a really nice "we're a hodge-podge family on a space ship" vibe going for it. I will warn you, though: not the most gripping plot.
